Every board needs a power tree, and the parts that populate it are usually chosen late, under time pressure, and from whatever catalogue is closest to hand. Haiben has supplied electronic components from Shenzhen since 2013, and our power-line catalogue is organised around the way that tree is actually built: regulation, conversion, protection and charging. This page explains what each family does, which parameters purchasing and hardware engineering need to agree on before a request for quotation, and where the Weforsemi line fits.

The power tree: what a power management IC set covers

A power management IC is rarely a single decision. On a typical industrial or consumer-electronics board, the input arrives at one voltage, several rails must be generated at different levels, some loads need tight regulation while others only need a rough supply, and the battery or external adapter has to be protected from its own worst-case events. That work is split across a set of devices, each covering one function in the chain.

The sequence normally runs: protection at the input, conversion from the input voltage down or up to intermediate rails, linear regulation where noise or cost matters more than efficiency, and a charging stage where a battery is present. LED and backlight strings sit slightly to one side, because they need a controlled current rather than a controlled voltage. Choosing the set early, rather than part by part, avoids the common situation where a downstream regulator's input range does not match the rail feeding it.

The families in this range

The catalogue is organised into the following categories, which also structure our Weforsemi line:

The Weforsemi line covers charging ICs, LDOs, DC-DC boost ICs, DC-DC buck ICs, backlight driver ICs and LED driver ICs. Serial Flash is a memory device rather than a power function, but it appears in the same catalogue because it is frequently specified alongside the power tree on the same bill of materials.

Regulation first: LDO and linear

Linear regulation is the simplest block in the tree and often the last one to be given proper attention. An LDO regulators page in any catalogue will list dropout voltage, quiescent current and output accuracy, but the selection work starts earlier than that. The engineer must define the input rail and its tolerance, the load current profile including transient peaks, the acceptable dropout at minimum input, and whether the load is sensitive to the regulator's noise. The thermal budget then follows from the voltage difference multiplied by the current.

Three-terminal fixed regulators belong to the same decision, typically where a standard rail is needed and the board has room to dissipate the difference. Purchasing should treat the package and thermal path as part of the specification, not an afterthought: two devices with identical electrical ratings can behave very differently once placed in a small enclosure. Exact part numbers and datasheet values for the Weforsemi LDO and linear range are confirmed at quotation, against the requirements above.

Conversion and protection: DC-DC, OVP, charging

Switching conversion takes over where the drop across a linear regulator would waste too much power. Our DC-DC converters category separates buck (step-down) from boost (step-up) because the two have different design consequences: buck stages are defined by input range, output current, switching frequency and the inductor and capacitor network around them, while boost stages add the behaviour of the feedback loop at light load. For the Weforsemi buck and boost ICs, the buyer defines input and output conditions and the datasheet confirms the rest at quotation.

Protection is a separate block, and here one model-level example can be given: the VCP14C13P-A is an overvoltage protection IC in a SOT23-3 package, rated in the 1.3 A class. It sits between an input and the downstream circuit and disconnects or clamps when the input exceeds the threshold, which matters most with long cables, hot-plug connectors or adapter failure.

Lithium battery charging ICs close the tree where a cell is present, and the specification work is dominated by the battery rather than the IC: chemistry, charge current, termination method and thermal behaviour during charge. LED and backlight driving follow similar logic on the current side — a LED driver ICs selection is defined by string current, forward-voltage spread, dimming method and the supply available, not by the driver in isolation. Exact Weforsemi part numbers and datasheet values for chargers, LED drivers and backlight drivers are confirmed at quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Does Haiben distribute third-party semiconductor brands?

This page describes our own-brand Weforsemi line, operated by Haiben's wholly-owned subsidiary, alongside the catalogue categories above. For any sourcing question beyond our own-brand range, contact us directly and we will tell you plainly what we can and cannot supply.

Can you quote a power management IC without full specifications?

We can start from a functional description, but a usable quotation needs the input voltage range, required output voltage and current, package preference and any thermal limits. Where those are not yet fixed, we will confirm which parameters the datasheet must settle before a part is committed.

Where is the published data for specific models?

Model-level data in this brief set exists for the VCP14C13P-A OVP IC only: SOT23-3 package, overvoltage protection, 1.3 A class. For every other family, part numbers and datasheet values are confirmed at quotation rather than published on this page.
